About Me

I live in Holmer Green with my husband and two boys. We rely on local public services. I work in London as a Managing Director of a trade association. Like many local residents, I commute into London every week.

Previously, I served as the Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East (2010-2019) and also in the Shadow Cabinet (Shadow Europe Minister, Shadow Housing Minister and Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government). As Shadow Housing Minister, I campaigned for more council homes, greater security for private renters and an end to homelessness and rough sleeping.

As an MP, I led national and local campaigns: for local employers to pay the living wage, better road safety, statutory regulation of bailiffs, better working conditions at a nearby Amazon depot, affordable childcare and proxy voting for women MPs on maternity leave. One of my proudest moments was preventing the illegal deportation of one of my constituents from the Windrush generation.

Buckinghamshire is one of richest counties in the country but the statistics hide the harsh reality that many people in Wycombe are struggling with cost of living and putting enough food on the table.

For our local area, I want to campaign for good local public services, policies that tackle our climate emergency, an affordable, warm, decent home for local families in an area where they feel safe and every child growing up here to fulfil their potential, with good schools and teachers nurturing their interests.

The last Labour government transformed the NHS, brought down waiting times and delivered record levels of satisfaction. A Labour government will rebuild our NHS so that it doesn’t leave people stranded, waiting hours for an ambulance or waiting too long for a standard operation.
