Violence Against Women and Girls Community Event

Violence Against Women and Girls Community Event

I hosted a Violence Against Women and Girls Community Event in High Wycombe on Friday 21 November, welcoming organisations, local stakeholders and residents of Wycombe who are committed to ending violence against women and girls.

I was joined by Alex Davies-Jones, MP for Pontypridd and the Minister for Victims and for tackling Violence Against Women and Girls, who spoke about the Government’s ambitious pledge to halve violence against women and girls over the next decade.

Attendees also heard from local campaigner Lisa Squire, who spoke about her important work on the It Does Matter campaign to drive national awareness of non-contact sexual offences and the need for systemic change following the tragic loss of her daughter, Libby Squire.

I was delighted to bring together Wycombe residents, local councillors and representatives of Wycombe schools and faith groups to learn more about the vital work of organisations in the VAWG space. The event was an invaluable opportunity to hear the voices of those at the heart of supporting women and girls both locally and nationally.

I am proud of the Government’s goal to halve violence against women and girls within a decade, and I am committed to listening, learning and advocating for effective policies that protect women and girls and support survivors.”
