A pathway to recognition of a Palestinian State

The appalling scenes in Gaza are unrelenting: we must do all we can to end the suffering.

I stood for election on a manifesto which committed to Palestinian statehood as an inalienable right of the Palestinian people.

On 29 July, the Government laid out a pathway to recognition of Palestine in September. But recognition by itself will not change the situation on the ground.

We are therefore taking additional immediate steps to alleviate the humanitarian situation, including air drops of humanitarian supplies, getting injured children out of Gaza and into British hospitals, and pressing strongly for UN deliveries of humanitarian assistance to resume.

This Labour Government demands an immediate ceasefire, unfettered UN aid to Gaza, and the immediate release of hostages.
