Congratulations to Wycombe Wanderers

Congratulations to Wycombe Wanderers

I wish to congratulate Wycombe Wanderers Football Club on achieving a place in the League One play-offs and commend them on a fantastic season so far, having accumulated their highest ever points total and brought huge amounts of pride and entertainment to the community of High Wycombe.

Having attended recent matches with family, I have seen first-hand the hard work and tremendous spirit that has been developed between the players, staff and supporters to create a fabulous atmosphere at Adams Park, and look forward with excitement to the play-offs and the buzz that will be felt across the town.

It is a football club steeped in glorious history, from the three successful victories at Wembley in the early 1990s, to the FA Cup and League Cup adventures to the semi-finals, to the recent finals at Wembley in the play-offs and EFL Trophy.

But it also has an incredibly exciting future ahead of it, with the development of a new academy which will provide pathways for aspiring young footballers from the local community into the professional game.

I was delighted to see the club launch a fantastic initiative enabling children to receive a free home shirt when they take up a season ticket for just £25 next season. Attending – and participating in – live sporting events is something that should be encouraged of young children and the club – along with its charitable foundation – are making great strides in their efforts to engage with more and more young people each year.

So I wish the team every success in the forthcoming play-off matches, and urge the town to get behind its local football team as they bid to return to the Championship, with its only previous season at that level taking place during the pandemic and cruelly denying its supporters the opportunity to support their team in person at that time.

Good luck to everyone at the club – we are all right behind you!
