I planted a remembrance tribute at the Constituency Garden of Remembrance at the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament). I was asked to dedicate it to an individual, regiment or community from the constituency who died defending our democratic freedoms and way of life. With help from the Royal British Legion, I chose to remember:
Kenneth Richard Bowen, Private 1439634S, 2nd BATTALION GLOUCESTERSHIRE REGIMENT.
He lived in Abbey Barn Rd, High Wycombe and was a cabinet maker. In the Normandy landings in 1944, Kenneth landed in the second wave at Gold Beach. He was sadly killed in action on 10 August 1944 aged 20 years at Thury-Harcourt, near Caen. He is buried in the Bayeux War Cemetery.
