It was fascinating to visit William Hands – the furniture maker in the heart of High Wycombe which was started from William’s home in 1906.
It was wonderful to see the chairs that William Hands produced for the coronations of King George VI in 1936 and Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
William Hands now specialises in manufacturing high end furniture for businesses and it was amazing to see the huge boardroom table they’re working on. I was interested to meet Jai, one of their apprentices, and hear about how he is building his skills in upholstery. It is brilliant to see the company investing in the next generation to continue the furniture making industry which is key to Wycombe’s industrial heritage.
