I enjoyed visiting The Highcrest Academy as part of UK Parliament Week. This is an annual event that spreads the word about what Parliament does.
I was interested to hear how Highcrest Academy encourages its students to get involved in democracy, by running mock elections and sending a delegation to the Model United Nations.
Students told me about their career aspirations, which ranged from software engineering to speech and language therapy. The A Level Law and A Level Politics classes asked some thoughtful questions about hereditary peers, assisted dying and the role of an MP.
A most interesting visit, thank you Highcrest.
