The Conservatives turned a blind eye and allowed Water Companies to get away with polluting our rivers. I’m glad to see that regulators have taken tougher action on Thames Water. The Conservatives failed to act on this—it’s the bold action of a Labour government that made it happen. They ought to thank us!
The Water (Special Measures) Bill, introduced by the Labour government, gives regulators new powers to take tougher and faster action and crack down on Thames Water damaging the environment and failing their customers.
Thames Water has recently been fined its biggest ever penalty at £122.7m.
The new legislation also bans the payment of bonuses to water bosses if they fail to meet high standards to protect the environment, their consumers and their company’s finances.
