Outstanding careers guidance at RGS

I enjoyed a tour of Wycombe’s Royal Grammar School with headteacher Mr Wayne and Sixth form students Alex and Cameron. I heard from RGS careers lead Sweta Thakrar about the school’s award-winning careers programme.

Sweta Thakrar said:

It was a privilege to welcome Emma Reynolds (MP) to RGS and share insights into our award-winning Careers Programme, which has earned us recognition as a National Centre of Excellence in Careers Education.

At RGS, we prepare students from Year 7 through to Year 13 for ambitious futures, whether that be top-tier universities, including Oxbridge, or the growing number pursuing Degree/Higher Apprenticeships.

Our strong partnerships with the Local Authority (Bucks Business First and the Buckinghamshire Skills Hub), alongside our alumni and employer networks, allow us to deliver an innovative and forward-thinking careers provision.

It was also fantastic to discuss our plans for National Careers Week (#NCW2025), including a trip to the Bucks Skills Show, a whole-school Careers Prefect Assembly, a #YoungEnterprise Year 7 workshop, and our Sixth Form Lecture Series on Futures.”

As part of National Careers Week, it was inspiring to hear about the excellent careers provision at Wycombe’s Royal Grammar School. The Labour Government has outlined a comprehensive policy aimed at enhancing careers provision in all schools as part of its mission to break down barriers to opportunity. The Government is also delivering a new Youth Guarantee so every young person has access to education or training to help them find a job.

Sixth form students Alex and Cameron said:

Meeting Emma was a valuable insight into her role as an MP and her interactions with her constituents. We had a great opportunity to show her round RGS”
