I’m pleased we’ve been able to broaden eligibility to the Winter Fuel Payment. Because of this change, all pensioners in England and Wales with an income of, or below, £35,000 a year will benefit from a Winter Fuel Payment. That’s 9 million people – over three quarters of pensioners. This has been made possible by the economic stability delivered under the Labour government.
The Labour government remains firmly committed to protecting the Triple Lock, ensuring dignity and security in retirement. As a result, more than 12 million pensioners across the UK are set to see their State Pension rise by up to £1,900 during this Parliament.
We now have the highest growth in the G7, seen interest rates cut four times, and signed three historic trade deals with the US, EU and India.
As the economy strengthens, we’re committed to ensuring that its benefits reach people in tangible ways. Expanding eligibility of winter fuel payments is one step we’re taking to make that a reality for people.
