I visited the breakfast club at Highworth Combined School, ahead of the government’s national roll out of free breakfast clubs. I heard from headteacher Mrs Pankhania about the school’s impressive progress.
I was delighted to meet children and staff at Highworth Combined School and to hear about how much they enjoy attending breakfast club and mixing with different year groups.
The staff discussed with me how breakfast clubs support parents to work.
Headteacher Mrs Clare Pankhania explained how the culture of ‘studious intent’ created at Highworth Combined School has narrowed the gap in educational attainment between disadvantaged children and their peers.”
Mrs Pankhania said:
We’ve worked really hard to make a difference for children who need it the most, making sure they get the very best educational start in life.
This year, we expect to be in the top 5% of schools in England for attainment in national tests at the end of Key Stage 2. Just as importantly, we’ve looked for ways to do this whilst making teacher workload manageable.
